Holland Lop

The Holland Lop is very popular and well-liked by many rabbit enthusiasts, pet owners and breeders in the United States because of its compact size and attractiveness or "cuteness".

This tiny gorgeous breed marked its beginnings when a man by the name of De Cock sought to combine the best qualities from two rabbit breeds, the French Lop (known for being large and having floppy ears) and the Netherland Dwarf rabbits, into a new breed. The Hollands were brought to the United States in 1976 by Aleck Brooks III who is the founder of the Holland Lop Rabbit Specialty Club. The Holland Lop weighs around 3 lb (1.4 kg) and is close relative of the Netherland Dwarf and Miniature Lop . The next smallest is the Dwarf Lop at a little over 5 lb (2.2 kg), followed by the English, German, Meissener and French Lop breeds.

A Holland lop rabbit is bred in a limited variety of colours, the most popular being sooty fawn.

Due to rapid selective breeding in different types of lops over the past few decades does leave some strains of the breed susceptible to dental problems because the skull and jaws have been unable to evolve properly and have become un-aligned.

Holland Lops don't require a lot of space and they eat less than bigger Rabbits!
